GOOD RIDDANCE! Bobi Wine Taunts M7 on Closed accounts

Bobi Wine

National unity platform (NUP) head Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine is ecstatic following the closure of hundreds of Twitter accounts belonging to President Yoweri Museveni propagandists.

According to a statement released by Twitter on Thursday, 418 accounts affiliated to the Ugandan Head of State and his ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) were blocked for engaging in what it termed as “Coordinated inauthentic activity”.

Twitter added that these accounts were part of over 3500 users that were banned across 6 countries globally. Explaining the move further, twitter said the banned accounts were ‘manipulating public debate for a strategic goal’. Other countries that were affected include: Tanzania, Venezuela, China, Russia and Mexico.

After news of the bans went viral, NUP supremo Bobi Wine taunted president museveni, saying the ban narrowed his (museveni’s) hiding places.

Bobi drew particular reference to Museveni’s ban of Facebook in Uganda after the social media giant deleted many accounts of his supports over similar reasons.

“When Facebook blocked accounts he had been using to popularize and defend his brutal dictatorship, Mr. Museveni banned it and migrated his online mercenaries to Twitter. Now they have been blocked from there, too. Time comes when a despot simply has no more places to hide his skeletons! #WeAreRemovingaDictator,” Bobi Wine posted on his Facebook page.

It now remains to be seen whether a Twitter ban will follow that of Facebook; with similar action having been taken in Nigeria where twitter was just recently reinstated.
