Fresh trouble for Bobi Wine, Jamil Mukulu as deadly Cancer strikes

Bobi Wine

All is not well in the legal and human rights fraternities following news of the terminal illness of human rights lawyer, Anthony Wameli. Counsel Wameli was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer at the Boston Medical Centre in the USA where he has been admitted since June.

The diagnoses followed a series of biopsies. It should be remembered that earlier this year, Wameli was admitted to hospital after he complained of what was thought to be acute ulcers. Following unsuccessful treatment, he was flown to the USA, with possible poisoning also being added onto the list of ailments for which tests needed to be done.

However, all prior tests turned negative thus the biopsies which revealed the celebrated lawyer was suffering from cancer which had danced to the terminal Stage 4.

Blow to the Bobi Wines

Wameli’s poor health comes as a big blow to the nation considering that it is not too long since he established himself as an astute defender of human rights.

Also hitherto a city pastor at Ebenezer Christian fellowship church in Kanyanya, Wameli rose to prominence in 2017 after he successfully defended and led to the release of suspects that were accused of murder of former police spokesperson AIGP Andrew Felix Kaweesi, his bodyguard Kenneth Erau and driver Godfrey Mambewa.

However, the ailment is a very huge misfortune for the troubled opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) for whom Wameli has proved to be a legal rock.

Wameli was instrumental in helping Bobi Wine make it to the 2021 presidential ballot paper after he successfully defended him in cases including Nkonge Kibalama’s claim of the party as well as Male Mabirizi’s academic qualifications and age query cases.

But together with Bobi Wine, Wameli’s sickness will affect jailed ADF warlord Jamil Mukulu and retired Gen. Henry Tumukunde.
