“Don’t Involve Me In MP Ssegirinya’s Poll Petition Saga”-DS Anita Warns

Ssegirinya Muhammad

Deputy Speaker Anita Annet Among has threatened to drag anyone to police who falsely accuses her of meddling in the Kawempe North MP Mohamed Ssegirinya’s election petition.Ssegirinya was dragged to court by his rival Sulaiman Kidandala who claims the MP never went to school but that he was trading under another person’s academic papers.

In the case which began this week, the petitioner suffered a huge blow after the electoral commission sided with Ssegirinya suggesting that the petitioner failed to serve him yet he was the main respondent. The EC asked court to reject the petition on grounds it never met the proper court procedures. In a dramatic turn of events however, some individuals claiming to belong to opposition National Unity Platform took to social media and penned a missive  accusing the deputy speaker of being behind Ssegirinya after he allegedly paid her over shs300m to save the situation.

They also accused Ssegirinya of being in bed with Museveni’s NRM to save him from losing his MP seat.Anita however, rubbished this claim saying it is only intended to soil her hard earned name. “I am going to arrest anyone who plays around with my name. Why are people so wicked to this extent? Someone fails to fulfil court procedures and then turn your anger on others? I will not listen to such. Only the law will judge us” she vowed in a phone interview with this online site.

Anita said she was also shocked to see her name being mentioned and wondered what the motive was and those behind it. Anita three months ago took the country by surprise after she garnered over 80 percent votes among legislatures to become the deputy speaker of the 11th parliament. Also Bukedea Woman MP, Anita has proved her ability to steer the house moving in unison despite the fact that there are two sides of ruling party and opposition.
