The Ugandan social media fraternity is at great loss following the death of city Tiktok celebrity Asiya Namirembe aka Asiya wa Chalisi.
A people’s darling, Asiya succumbed to complications following a stomach operation, according to Uganda’s chief herbalist, Mama Fiina.
Asiya’s death was confirmed by her chief promoter Rogers Ssebunya aka SB4, the proprietor and producer of popular YouTube channel, SB4 Media Uganda.
According to Ssebunya, Asiya died in the wee hours of Friday morning, moments after what had been thought to be a successful stomach operation. In a live media interview on BUKEDDE TV’s morning show, mama fiina disclosed that Asiya was rushed to Mulago Hospital on Wednesday after a chronic stomach illness she had complained about for long got worse.
“She has been complaining of stomach pains for long but we didn’t take it seriously because she always talked about it in passing as if it was a less serious issue caused by food digestion problems; it is unfortunate that it has ended up killing her,” Mama Fiina said. She added that when Asiya’s condition worsened, she was rushed to Mulago Hospital where an operation was advised and done successfully.
“However, after the operation her condition deteriorated and she began struggling to pluck off the oxygen gas mask saying she was tired… In the morning we got news that she had passed on,” Mama Fiina narrated.
A PEOPLE’S DARLING
Asiya rose to prominence after SB4 teamed her up with fellow Tiktok star Charles to create a funny comic duo that fed their fans on unscripted humorous skits.
In the skits which have included a valentine’s date, wedding rehearsal and social outings, a ‘semi-educated’ Charles has been playing the role of a loyal but henpecked husband while an ‘illiterate but overly confident’ Asiya always let off a figure of a controlling and jealous lover who warned her love off other women and also warned admirers off her man.
The pair’s ability to ooze fun even without speaking much earned them many celebrity admirers led by Mama Fiina, who even built a house for Asiya at her mum’s home in Kamwokya, Kampala.
Also among Asiya’s notable friends and thousands of TikTok followers included Pastor Wilson Bugembe for whom Asiya prayed for a marriage and politician-cum-singer Bobi Wine who even revealed studied with Asiya in primary school.
In fact, Bobi Wine took to his Facebook page to mourn Asiya.
“Munange Asia, otukoze bubi nnyo OG. Tujja kusubwa nnyo omutima gwo omulungi n’emboozi zo ezinyuma. May your gentle soul rest I perfect peace. You will be dear missed,” he posted.
Famed and loved for her openness, Asiya was also a staunch supporter of Bobi wine and has been a common figure at the NUP headquarters in Kamwokya where he has been cracking up supporters and officials with her raw but funny opinion on many political issues.
Asiya will be missed by a long legion of her fans, with her popularity highlighted by a host of city celebrities who took to their various social media platforms to eulogise the departed TikToker. By press time artistes and other popular Ugandans including Lydia Jazmine, Sheilah Gashumba, Karole Kasita, Ykee Benda, Guvnor Ace, Chosen Becky, John Blaq, Rickman, Deejay Nimrod, Pastor Mondo Mugisha among others had expressed their grief at Asiya’s passing.
By press time, her body was still lying at Mulago Hospital Mortuary, with burial arrangements said to be communicated later. RIP Asiya!!!
