President Museveni Gives Shs300m To Holy Martyrs Choir Namugongo

VP Alupo hands over the president's donation
  • COMMENDS THIS CHOIR FOR USING CHRISTIAN MUSIC TO PROMOTE RELIGIOUS TOURISM

President Museveni has commended Holy Martyrs Choir Namugongo for its
initiative aimed at promoting religious tourism through the Uganda
Martyrs.

In his speech read by Vice President Maj. Jessica Alupo last evening,
Gen. Museveni thanked this choir for using the medium of Christian
Music to promote what he called a noble cause.

The president described the initiative as a step in the right
direction and urged everyone to contribute generously towards its
success.

Museveni said he was unable to personally attend the choir’s
fundraising drive citing earlier scheduled commitments. The
fundraising was focused on promoting religious tourism through the
Uganda Martyrs.

“I thank you for using the medium of Christian music to champion this
noble cause. The NRM government recognizes the Church as a trusted
partner in working towards the socio-economic transformation of
Uganda. The Church and faith-based organizations have made a
significant contribution towards the extension of education and health
services by constructing schools and health facilities” the president
said, adding that ‘This is an indication that the Church is concerned
with both the spiritual and physical needs of the people. The
Christian Ministry should not be limited to only satisfying man’s
spirituality’

Museveni contributed Shs300m at the fundraising and noted that the
believers need to be encouraged to follow the example of Jesus Christ
who; besides preaching, praying and fasting, worked alongside his
father Joseph as a carpenter.

He said the NRM government is committed to the total transformation of
Uganda by ensuring that all the households become wealth and job
creators.

“39% of the Ugandan households are still outside the money economy.
They are trapped in subsistence farming i.e. working only for food.
This is unsustainable in a modern economy, where one is required to
satisfy other human needs like medicine, clothing, shelter etc.; these
can only be obtained with money” the president said.

The president called on all religious leaders to use their platforms
to encourage the believers to join the wealth creation campaign. He
said there ought to be no spectators in the economy.

“You should urge the faithful to select profitable ventures in the
four sectors of commercial agriculture, industries, services and ICT.

The NRM government has created a favorable environment in the form of
peace, and stability, good roads, enough electricity etc. However,
these must be translated into jobs and wealth for the households” he
said and wished this choir a fruitful fundraising drive.
