ENERGY MINISTER NANKABIRWA ASSURES WESTNILERS THAT THE 6.6MW PLANT MIGHT BE COMMISSIONED THIS YEAR

The Minister of Energy and Mineral development Dr Ruth Nankwabirwa has revealed that the 6.6MW Nyagak3 hydro power plant might be commissioned this year (2023) basing on the progression at the site.

Nankabirwa gave this update during the inspection of the plant yesterday.

“I have come here to monitor the progress of this project because its very important and critical since the people in West Nile have been anxious to see it’s operations” she said adding that she was impressed with the contractor due to his commitment to deliver.
“Whenever I visit this place, I find progress and I urge the contractor to continue finding ways to get funds to complete the work as government also looks for funds to pay back” she said.


Nankabirwa pledged to sweet talk her colleague minister Matia Kasaija, the minister of finance to release the remaining 28bshs to complete this important plant.
The minister further urged the people of West Nile to continue being patient, saying there is steady progress at Nyagaka 3 power plant.

“We know that probably this year (2023) the plant will be officially commissioned to stabilize power supply in West Nile region” she stressed.
Nyagak 3 hydropower plant is a 6.6MW located in Paidha town council in Zombo district. Once it starts its operations, it is expected to overcome the issue of dimmed power in West Nile region.
