Mukono Diocese Bishop James William Ssebaggala has appealed to President Museveni’s government to immediately provide security to Mukono Diocese land which is threatened by land grabbers.
The man of God says that he has on several times tried to appeal to the authorities over the same issue but the response is minimal.
Ssebaggala made this call during the 2nd graduation ceremony of Mukono Diocese School of Nursing and Midwifery Sciences in Kisowera Mukono District.
The main celebrant was the Minister of Energy and Mineral Development Dr. Ruth Nankabirwa.
“The land grabbers have invaded the priests and they have even destroyed their properties.
This land belongs to the church and the church has its tittle but unfortunately they want to encroach on the land by force yet they were compensated but bounced back” he cried adding that ‘We have supported government in many ways but we also want government to come and help us on this cause” the bishop added
He said that the land grabbers are threatening the lives of students especially girls the reason the diocese needs security in this place.
Ssebaggala added that because of the threats, the church can not proceed with it’s mega projects on the land as the grabbers keep disorganizing them.
Meanwhile, Nankabirwa who prisided over the graduation ceremony committed herself to help the church to stop all people from enchroching on the church land.
“My Lord the Bishop, I think giving you security on this land is not the answer but we need to solve this problem for once and for all. Am so touched to see a whole Bishop lamenting about land grabbing yet the government I serve can intervene” she said and warned the grabbers.
“Those who encroach on the church land your days are over. We shall work on you accordingly. Am going to talk the concerned Minister’s in the ministry of land and take action” she said.
A total of 303 students received diplomas and certificates in both nursing and midwifery.
The minister commended the church for supporting President Museveni’s efforts to increase on the number of scientists by training more health workers like nurses and midwives.
