Ugandans Vote ERA Best 2021 Statutory Body

Eng. Ziria Waako Tibalwa

A survey conducted by a local research organization-Public Opinions International in conjunction with the Office of the President’s Department of Economic Monitoring has revealed that Ugandans have much faith in the operations of the Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA).

As such, the survey indicated that among all statutory bodies in the country, ERA under the leadership of Eng. Ziria Waako Tibalwa scooped the position of the Best Statutory Authority for 2021.
In the second position came Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) headed by Allen Kagina.

According to Public Opinion managing director Adam Buyinza, the survey covers the ending year 2020/2021.
“The united, conflict free and dedicated leadership of the ERA Board of Directors, Staff and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Eng. Ziria Waako Tibalwa explains the mass achievements registered by the Authority in the year 2020/2021” he says.

He adds that because of a conducive regulatory environment created by Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA), a remarkable improvement in the Distribution of Electricity in Uganda has been realized.

“Energy Losses have been reduced from over 30% at liberalization to 16% in 2020. The Access to Clean Energy rate has also increased and the legally Grid-Connected Customer Base has grown from approximately 180,000 Customers in 2001 to 1,643,288 in 2020, including Off-Grid Customers.” He says.

This latest award is second of it’s kind after the same entity (ERA) scooped the best electricity regulator body on the continent of Africa for 2021. ERA beat over 40 other countries to scoop this top position. The award is now coming to Uganda for the fourth straight year.

No wonder, ERA began this new year by giving Ugandans reduced power Tarrifs for the first quarter covering the period of January to March. The same innovative team at ERA has coined a ‘Cook with Electricity’ initiative where lower tariffs have been designed to enable people use electricity for cooking hence reducing on pressure on our forest cover in search of fuel for cooking.
