How Uganda Cranes Can Storm World Cup Finals after Rwanda double

Fahad Aziz Bayo

Fahad Aziz Bayo proved yet again to be Uganda’s run-to hero as he found the net to condemn Rwanda’s Amavubi Stars to a double loss against Uganda in the 2022 world cup qualifiers.

Bayo’s 20th minute strike was all Uganda needed to complete a sweet second victory against the Rwandese in less than a week. Uganda’s win followed Uganda’s earlier win in Rwanda last Wednesday when Bayo put the visiting Cranes ahead in the 40th minute.

Uganda’s Sunday win cemented the cranes in second place on 8 points below group E leaders Mali who moved to 10 points after completing a double against Kenya’s Harambee Stars.

The Permutations
As things stand now, Kenya and Rwanda are practically out of the group, with the race for the final playoffs now left between Uganda and Mali.

For Uganda to progress however, it must overcome a boggy Kenyan side which stood in our way in 2013, holding us to a goalless draw at Namboole to give way to Angola.

The toughest call however, will be getting maximum points against Mali, the only solace being that the match will be played on a neutral ground in Morocco due to the political instability in Mali.
Only the leaders of each of the current 10 groups will advance to the next round which will involve a playoff between 10 teams out of which five will make it to Qatar 2022.
