Has Gen. Museveni Finally Ditched Beti Kamya As IGG? Why Its Too Early To Say So And Who Are The Likely Appointees!

By John Okello Lapok

During the recent NRM structural elections, President Museveni was faced with a challenge of removing all people he thought had tainted his name and government. In his thinking, it was some of these agents that even forced him to make a public apology while at a function at Kololo.

Inspectors said the President’s apology was actually in response to what some people in mainly Uganda Police Force or connected to it had allegedly done. This was the reason most of its former commanders and axillary actors were arrested and taken to prison, although some are out.

However, our inspectors suggested that even as some were released, the Head of State and NRM chairman is not about to forgive them and therefore, doesn’t want any of them to be part of the leadership of his party.

One such individual according to inspectors who fell in this category was Ibrahim Kitatta, the former Lubaga NRM chairman and also a police operative heading Boda Boda 2010!

Inspectors stated that at the time of conducting the NRM structure elections, the President discovered that some of them wanted to return to their positions and yet intelligence informed him that their retention in NRM leadership was counterproductive.

Upon confirming that Kittata was standing again for his NRM position, a meeting sat and it was decided that his hopes be stopped for the good of the party.

Inspectors said immediately, he reached out to his blue-eyed gal and IGG Beti Olive Namisango Kamya instructing her to ensure that such alleged tainted names didn’t make it anywhere back on the NRM leadership structures. Kamya, a person with vast experience in Lubaga politics, reportedly swung into action working with a line of security officials led by Lubaga Deputy RCC.

“Kamya delivered the job as tasked. It wasn’t an easy one because Kitatta was so entrenched having been there for years. But she managed and Mzee was happy. That was a big task to remove him because his name had issues based on intelligence files before him. That’s why he was arrested” explained an inspector.

We were told that with that most recent task she executed for the big man, Kamya’s rating in his eyes as a smooth operator were raised.

However, even as she scored, her contract is yet to be renewed by the President and yet it expires on 22nd of this month. There has therefore, been speculations that Museveni may decide to drop her while others say he is soon renewing it.

Some of the suggested possible appointees as IGG included former leader of opposition in parliament Winfred Kiiza. Although it is not yet clear whether she will accept to serve in this position, inspectors said Museveni is very willing to work with the lady from Kasese.

She is regarded as a transparent and untainted person right from the days she was in parliament. We’re told since Kiiza’s hubby Yokas Bihande suffered the wrath of the IGG over the CDF funds, appointing her to this position guarantees results as she already knows the importance of accountability. Also, her proposed appointment to this position would help reduce on opposition rhetoric against Museveni in Kasese region where Kiiza is considered a heavy power broker.

Others are London-based Barrister Peter Magomu Mashate who was a private lawyer to Gen. Museveni. It should be recalled that Mashate together with now Chief Justice Owiny Dollo and others defended Museveni in his election battles with Kizza Besigye and the President won the case. Whereas all his other colleagues have since been rewarded including current Atonney General Kiwanuka Kiryowa, it is him who has stagnated. The alleged possible appointment of him as IGG, would also cement Museveni’s chances in Bugisu sub-region where there is too much grumbling over cabinet appointment.

Another proposal is Femier Wadada, the former woman MP for Sironko district who defected to NRM. She is daughter to Wadada, a man who was the first to give Museveni a gift when he attained power although he died four years ago. The man told Museveni that he would rule Uganda until he gets tired, a prophesy that has come to pass! We’re told the President actually was hunting for this Wadada for a meeting, although this never materialized. Besides her being a daughter to Wadada, the possible appointment of her is premised on the fact that it would help tame FDC’s Nandala Mafabi’s influence in Bugisu just like Mashate would do. Both hail from Sironko district in Bugisu.  Watch this space!
