President Yoweri Museveni has directed the Ministry of Finance , Planning and Economic Development to expedite the release of  funds to the Office of the Prime Minister to manage disasters in the country. This comes at a time when people in Bulambuli and Kibuku districts are shedding tears following disastrous rains that struck their areas in the past few days.

In Bulambuli district for example, over 20 people have been confirmed dead after the mudslides buried them in Buluganya Sub-County, while in Kibuku district, Kagumu Sub-County was also hit leaving heavy losses!

According to the Permanent Secretary-Ministry of Finance Ramathan Goobi, the Ministry will before the end of this week, release Shs50bn for disaster management.

He said this during an inter-ministerial meeting chaired by the Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja today in Kampala.

Last week, a landslide occurred in the Sub county of Buluganya in Bulambuli district living people dead and hundreds displaced.

Nabbanja responded by visiting Buluganya and pledged total government intervention to recover the bodies as well as relocating the affected communities to Butambutye. She’s however, yet to visit Kagumu Sub-County although local leaders through their area legislator Mauku Mugole have petitioned her office seeking for urgent intervention.

Goobi said that part of the money will be used to procure 10000 acres of land to relocate people from landslide prone areas.

Nabbanja noted that  this matter has to handled with urgency to save peoples lives adding that those who will resist relocation will be forcefully relocated.

A satelite expert Dr Doreen Agaba informed the meeting that they will be releasing satellite images of what happened before the disaster happened in Buluganya to ascertain the number of households in the affected villages.
