By Juma Nsubuga

A Germany Association for Rural Women has awarded members of the Uganda National Farmers Federation with certificates of participation in a 10-day experience study tour in Germany.

The awarding ceremony was held at source gardens hotel in Jinja.

While giving out certificates to rural women, the president for the German Association of Rural Women, Petra Bentkamper applauded the Uganda rural women for the courage they exhibited during a 10-day experience study in German.

“I, with my delegation we are here in Uganda to follow up on our participants who visited German last year for study tour. We want to see them how they implement what they learnt in German” Bentkamper noted.

Bentkamper  added that “we have also issued or awarded certificates to them (rural women farmers) to appreciate their commitment to the project of advocacy, lobbying and skills they got from German through the German Association of Rural Women” she added.

She further appealed to the participants to implement what they learnt from German during their study tour and also give skills to local farmers.

Meanwhile, Sandra Nakayenze one of the beneficiaries applauded the German Association of Rural Women for giving an opportunity to Uganda rural women farmers to acquire knowledge and skills for German.

“Am lucky to be among the participants who got an opportunity to go to German for  a wonderful learning ground. I learnt that the Germans are very hard working people who always keep time and they have a long term plan for farmers we visited” the joyful young woman said adding that it was so unique and its very difficult to copy from German and implement it here in Uganda due to the technology they use. I learnt a lot of things in terms of advocacy, lobbying among others and i must say that the visitation to German has already improved my confidence, skills on how to engage stakeholders and how to utilize the available resources”  she said.

She saluted the German Association of Rural Women for the opportunity.

Meanwhile the CEO for the young farmers federation in Uganda, Denis Kabiito confirmed to this news site that the partnership with the German Association of Rural Women runs for  3 years with an intention to improve  and uplift standards of living to over 400 women across the country especially in the most volunerable areas of Eastern and Northern.

“This partnership with the German association of rural women started in 2023 and will end in 2025.Our target is to improve over 400 women in the most volunerable areas of East and Northern”Kabiito said adding that this project is about empowering and strengthening the capacity of rural women for equal participation of agriculture value chain to enable them to get strong women in rural areas who can contribute to their own families development and the nation.

A group of over 20 rural women farmers from Uganda last year visited  other rural women in German and discussed how they  can uplift rural women standards of living through farming.
