The Electoral Commission has set November 29 and 30 2021 as nomination dates for candidates vying for Local Government Council seats in areas where they exist.
According to EC chairman Simon Byabakama, the nomination of candidates shall take place at the respective district/city headquarters begining at 9am to 5pm on each of the appointed dates.
“All person’s aspiring to contest in the by-elections are urged to farmiliarize themselves with the requirements for nomination for each elective position as outlined in the guidelines issued by the EC. Aspiring candidates can collect copies of the nomination forms and the above guidelines from the district EC offices in each district across the country” he said adding that others can also get them from EC website.
He urged the aspiring candidates to adhere to the EC guidelines in accordance with the SOPs on COVID-19 by wearing a mask, observing social distance and hand washing.
“Accordingly, an aspiring candidate shall be accompanied to the nomination venue by only two persons who include the proposer and seconder. The aspiring candidate shall also be allowed to use only two vehicles for purposes of attending the nominations and each vehicle shall not carry more than three persons including the driver and convoys and processions shall not be allowed during the nomination exercise” he explained.
