Bobi Wine Under Threat As NRM Begins Mega Grassroot Tours To Reclaim Busoga, Strengthen Lango Support!

By Monica Namukose

A delegation of NRM leaders led by Deputy Secretary General Rose Namayanja has  today camped at MUM Resort Hotel in Iganga district to engage with the party structures on issues of manifesto implementation and service delivery in the Busoga subregion.

Namayanja is accompanied by a line of secretariat bosses including Counsel Enoch Barata the  Director for Legal, Alisemera  Jane Babiiha NRM EC Commissioner, and area MPs, among others.

The engagement will address a range of issues affecting the fishing communities and those involved in sugar cane growing.

Last week the NRM secretary general Richard Todwong launched a Mega grassroot mobilization tours in Busoga and Lango subregions.

Busoga has always been an NRM stronghold until in the last elections where the party’s presidential candidate Yoweri Museveni was floored by NUP candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Bobi Wine. Out of the 11 districts and a City in Busoga, Museveni managed to win in only three districts including Kaliro, Namutumba and Buyende and moreover on a small margin. In the aftermath of the shocking election trend, a State House team led by Senior Presidential Advisor on Busoga in charge of poverty alleviation, Florence Mutyabule, traversed the subregion to establish the underlying factors for rejecting Museveni.

In her report to the President according to Inspectors, it was indicated that the issue of falling prices/lack of market for sugarcane and alleged cruelty against fishermen by the army coupled with serious poverty badly hit the NRM candidate with a bad egg among the voters. The Namayanja team now is on the ground to reassess the NRM chances of winning back it’s lost glory in this Sub-Region.
