In an effort to ensure a Cleaner City, Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Executive Director Sharifah Buzeki has come up with a campaign targeting vendors, motorists, homes and bosses at work places in regards to proper rubbish management.
Dubbed ‘Weyonje’ Campaign, the program seeks to create awareness among Kampalans on the vitality of maintaining good sanitation in order to achieve a cleaner City.

The KCCA boss in a series of short, precise and easily understandable messages to Kampalans, urges for example; those with a habit of turning toilets into rubbish pits to stop this.
“The toilet is not a rubbish pit. I have encouraged my neighbor to use one of her buckets as a bin” one message showing a lady talking to her neighbor about rubbish handling reads.
Another message is directed at vendors. It shows how a messy stall sends buyers away.
Buzeki therefore, encourages every vendor to sort their waste, keep their space clean and wait for customers and profits to thank her!
This lady of Allah, is also very aware of the dangers of the Kavera to our environment. She therefore, urges people to save the environment by reducing on their usage of the polythene bag.
And yet, parents aren’t spared either in this campaign. A father for example, is pictured teaching his kids on how to separate rubbish and keep the home clean because the father doesn’t have money to waste on medical bills.
“No more diarrhea in our home. I always separate my rubbish and put it in the right bins” a father says in the message.
As for Boda Bodas, the industrious ED also has their package especially on the way they handle used water bottles.
“I make sure plastic bottles go to the bin not on the road. No flooded roads, mean less fuel” the message to them reads.
There’s also a group among traders who keep claiming that someone is bewitching their businesses. However, according to Buzeki, the truth maybe that such complainants are simply filthy, which pushes potential clients away.

“Olowooza bakuloga naye kasasiro y’agoba ba client. Put your rubbish in the right place” the message reads.
Another message goes to bosses who do not know how to treat rubbish and keep littering the roads.
“Osuula kasasiro mu kkubo? Mbu naawe ggwe boss! Swalako naawe!”
Hajji. Fahd Kasule, C.E.O Royal Medical Tourism, a company operating from California plaza, welcomed this initiative saying it will greatly reduce rubbish thrown on the streets.
“First of all, I like the choice of words used. The language is persuasive not coercive. People will take it more serious because it touches on their nerves. The purpose will be achieved” he said.
Well, here are the messages to follow and keep Kampala City Clean!
