A ray of hope has shone on Uganda after the hands-on Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja successfully landed serious Investors in UAE to help invest in the country’s waste management system.

With Kiteezi Landfill ghosts still hovering over the heads of disgraced former KCCA Boss Dorothy Kisaka and her partners in crime, Nabbanja has already landed investors who have promised to help Uganda turn waste into wealth.

The commitment was made yesterday when the purposeful Prime Minister visited a garbage processing plant  at  Sharjah Emirates in UAE.

During her guided tour of the project, Nabbanja who even tested some of the machines, was informed that this plant treats about 1000 tonnes of garbage daily which translates into 30MW of clean energy enough to power 28000 households.

Nabbanja revealed to the investors that government is struggling to acquire the best technology to work on Ugand’s waste.

“We have been warned by scientists that keeping the garbage for many years is risky because methane keeps on building and it can turn into a volcano” she said

The  UAE Investors brought smiles on the Premier’s face when they promised to partner with Uganda government to process garbage into valuable products like electricity, Fertilizers, fuel pavers among others.

“We are excited to explore on how we can partner and we  want to make garbage commercially attractive to government,” said Fahim Sultan Al Qasimi, the Executive Chairman department of government relations.

The  visit follows a tragedy that befell Uganda when the kiteezi landfill collapsed killing several people and destroying property worth millions and later resulted into the arrest of KCCA top officials.

“We send our condolences to all those that lost their dear ones in that unfortunate incident, rest be assured that at the Emirates of Sharjah , we will do what ever it takes to provide the best services and the technology” Fahim added.

During the study tour, Nabbanja was  accompanied by the State Minister for Foreign Affairs John Mulimba, Uganda’s Ambassador to UAE Zaake Wanume Kibedi  and KCCA Acting Executive Director Frank Nyakana Rusa.

The Prime Minister who is also Kakumiro district woman MP, also urged UAE investors to consider investing into other valuable products like food processing because Uganda is an agricultural country endowed with plenty of food.
