The NRM party has dealt a huge blow to its MP flag bearers by warning them against using president Museveni’s polling agents as their own agents as well.
The stern warning was issued during a training exercise for NRM vote coordinators and polling agents at the Office of the NRM National Chairman in Kyambogo, last Friday. While chairing the training, Deputy speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, cautioned the agents and coordinators who were drawn from across the countr against acting as double agents for both the president and any other candidate, be it an NRM flagbearer.

“Don’t be a double agent that day. on that day, don’t say I’m an agent for the president and an agent of the flagbearer. Be very clear to these people we’re putting on polling stations; tell them they’re only agents for the president,” Tayebwa said.
He also warned the polling agents against provoking or being baited into violence during the voting period. Hajjat Hadijah Namyalo, the convener of the training, reiterated that the party trained the coordinators and agents so as to harmonise the NRM votes protection process and also cure any confusions that may occur. Tanga Odoi, the NRM electoral chief, urged the trained cadres to stick to the guidelines given to them so as to maximize the party’s chances of winning as many sists as possible.
According to the plan, the party’s MP candidates can draw agents from the trained agents but cannot use those designated to particularly protect the president’s votes.
