“Stop Physical Chopping Of Land After Death Of Your Parents -Gen Museveni Tells Kiruhura, Kazo Natives At Rwakitura

While some people were yesterday (Fools Day) busy fooling others, President Museveni was on the other hand giving words of wisdom to natives of his home district- Kiruhura and Kazo!

The Head of State and his wife Janet yesterday hosted a group of people from the two districts at his home in Rwakitura following a field study conducted by the group at Richard Nyakana’s model farm in Rwengaju, Fort Portal.

The President advised his guests to refrain from the act of land fragmentation, emphasizing its inherent danger.

He suggested that in cases of inheritance, beneficiaries should receive shares in the property rather than dividing it into small plots.

“Stop physical division of family property after the death of your parents, form associations and share proceeds from the property,” Museveni advised.

President Museveni also didn’t forget his usual message to leaders challenging them to be at the forefront of getting their people out of poverty instead of spending more time on politics.

He described leaders as doctors to their constituents who should be able to identify their problem and find a solution.

“Everybody must be involved in wealth creation. Wealth creation is the core.” said the Commander-in-Chief.

Museveni who was breathing on the same oxygen with his wife under the same tent, saluted the group for heeding his advice when he told them to tour Richard Nyakana’s farm and they did it.

During the group’s first visit to him in February at Kisozi, he advised them to embrace commercial agriculture with the right selection of enterprises. He said Nyakana earns close to Shs200m per year from small plots which he said they can also try out.

Nyakana according to Sevo, makes over Shs188m per annum from just one acre of land.  He rears cows for dairy and poultry farming.

He advised the group to undertake dairy farming, coffee growing, poultry farming, fish farming, and food crops for quick and visible returns.

“You should work for both the stomach and the pocket but do so with “ekibaro” and in order to intensify that, shift from extensive agriculture to intensive agricultural practices,” he said.

Museveni pledged to construct a demonstration farm, similar to that of Nyakana at Nshaara government ranch.

The President further pledged to provide silage choppers to every parish and tractors to every Sub County in the districts, enabling farmers to carry out their activities smoothly.

THANKS FOR WAKING US UP

During the interaction, the residents commended Museveni for encouraging them to participate in the money economy.

Alice Nabaasa, their group chairperson, said;

“Your Excellency, on behalf of our group, I want to thank you so much for waking us up and showing us the light. We have been sleeping, but after visiting Mr. Nyakana, we are now set to work and improve the lives of our families,”

Meanwhile, his wife Janet expressed appreciation to the group for heeding the President’s advice to improve their livelihoods and the lives of those they lead through wealth creation.

She further urged them to work harder in order to meet their needs.

“It is a great opportunity to address young leaders who are not self-centered,” she noted. The meeting was attended by area MPs and LCV bosses among other leaders.
