KAMPALA — When Ugandan artistes look beyond the country’s borders for new audiences, the challenge has often been finding reliable platforms that connect local talent with international markets. For Joseph Ssenkaali, that gap became an opportunity.
At 27, Ssenkaali has built a name in Uganda’s entertainment industry as an events promoter and entrepreneur through Ssenkaali Promotions Ltd, a company that seeks to link Ugandan creatives with audiences in the diaspora, particularly in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Born on February 12, 1999, in Lukaya Town Council, Kalungu District, Ssenkaali grew up surrounded by Uganda’s rich cultural environment. He attended Kamuwunga Primary School before joining Mpeera Secondary School, where his interest in entertainment and event organisation continued to develop.
His journey into the entertainment business was driven by a desire to create opportunities for artistes who often struggle to access international platforms. Through Ssenkaali Promotions Ltd, he has focused on artiste management, event organisation, digital marketing, branding and promotional campaigns.
The company, which operates between Dubai and Kampala, has become a bridge between Uganda’s creative industry and the growing East African diaspora community in the Middle East. Through concerts, showcases and promotional activities, Ssenkaali has worked to give Ugandan musicians, DJs and other creatives exposure beyond the local market.
Beyond organising events, Ssenkaali has also ventured into recognising talent through The Showing Awards, an initiative launched in 2024 to celebrate achievements in entertainment, digital media, content creation, influencing, modelling and other creative sectors.
The awards have provided a platform where artistes, content creators, promoters and other industry players can network and showcase their work. The 2026 edition includes a Uganda-based event in Kampala, with nominations covering categories such as DJs, influencers, content creators and promoters.
For Ssenkaali, the entertainment industry is not only about performances but also about building structures that allow young creatives to grow professionally. His work comes at a time when Ugandan artistes are increasingly seeking international audiences and partnerships.
As he continues expanding Ssenkaali Promotions’ activities, his story reflects the growing role of young entrepreneurs in shaping Uganda’s creative economy and creating connections between local talent and global opportunities.
