The Parliamentary Committee on National Economy yesterday commenced a strategic field visit to assess the progress of key donor-funded projects implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF) across Eastern Uganda.
Among the projects to be visited is the National Oilseeds Project (NOSP), the Agriculture Value Chain Development Project (AVCP), Uganda Climate Smart Agriculture Transformation Project in Katakwi, Bukedea, Soroti and Tororo districts and the National Oil Palm Project in Mayuge District.

On Wednesday, the committee visited Soroti district, where members evaluated infrastructure development and community engagement under the National Oilseeds Project (NOSP) and the Agriculture Value Chain Development Project (AVCP).
As part of the National Oilseeds Project, the committee toured the 13 km Agrigriwoi-Eukasi-Aputi community access road under construction, which is critical for market access and reducing post-harvest losses.
The team from parliament noted that works were at 95% completion. The committee then inspected the Zonal Disease Control Center under the AVCP whose work is at 40%. The center will play a pivotal role in monitoring and controlling livestock diseases in the Teso and Lango sub-regions, contributing to the resilience and productivity of Uganda’s livestock sector upon completion in December 2025.
The oversight visit will continue today in Bukedea and Tororo districts, where the committee will interact with both farmer groups under the National Oilseeds Project. These are expected to share stories of how access to improved seeds, training, and better market linkages is boosting incomes and food security and the Achomai Irrigation scheme seated at over 6000 acres under the Agriculture Value Chain Development Project.
Chairperson of the committee, Ikojo John Bosco , praised the visible progress achieved through these initiatives and emphasized the importance of sustainable development and accountability.
“Our oversight mission ensures that public and donor investments are translating into real change for rural communities. These projects are vital to Uganda’s agricultural transformation,” Hon. Ikojo stated.
The field mission demonstrates Parliament’s ongoing commitment to monitoring and evaluating development programs that support inclusive economic growth and food security.
