Police Arrest Moses Matovu Killer

The man believed to have fatally battered celebrated saxophonist and Afrigo Band founder Moses Matovu Bukenya has been apprehended.

Police have identified the suspected killer as Vincent Nsamba, who sources say works as a security guard.
Nsamba, 41, was arrested in Ocheng Ward, Yesu Amala, in Nansana Division, Wakiso District, where he had reportedly fled and gone into hiding following his Thursday morning attack on Matovu, popularly known as Papa Moi.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Nsamba attacked Matovu in Kibuli, Kampala, after allegedly trailing him on suspicion that he was having a sexual relationship with his girlfriend, Rose Tumusiime.

Sources say that after allegedly seeing the couple inside Tumusiime’s room, which he claimed to have been renting for her as her official lover, Nsamba became enraged.
Neighbours reportedly said he smashed windows and attempted to force open the door to get Matovu out of the house.

However, after failing to gain entry, Nsamba allegedly lay in wait near Matovu’s parked vehicle, a green Land Rover Discovery, UAR 982H, and attacked him and the woman as soon as they emerged at about 5:00am.

Matovu died at about 5:40am, approximately 30 minutes after the attack, in which Nsamba allegedly punched him, causing him to fall and hit the back of his head against a pavement.

Onlookers said Matovu lost a significant amount of blood at the scene before being rushed to Kibuli Muslim Hospital, where he reportedly died shortly after arrival.
Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death are ongoing.

This is a developing story.
