The Director Public Health and Environment, Dr.Sarah Zalwango, has ordered residents of Mbaawo zone in Mutundwe parish , who encroached on a drainage channel popularly known as Sedelico Drainage Channel to vacate it within seven days without fail.

She said those who will fail to comply within the set period , will be forcefully evicted.
The six- day ultimatum followed concerns from locals over floods caused by the said drainage channel especially during the rain season.
Addressing the press during a weekly clean-up exercise in Mbaawo zone, Mutundwe parish, Lubaga Division, Dr. Sarah Zalwango noted that in order to prevent further floods from the said drainage channel , the authority has ordered all locals who built on the drainage system or near it to vacate it or move 6 meters away from it to enable the authority’s machine open up the drainage channel for easy flow of run off water.

The Town Clerk Lubaga Division, John Bosco Bashinyora, said the weekly clean-up exercise was successful saying many locals were sensitized on the dangers of poor disposal of wastes and the heath risks that culminate in littering garbage anywhere. It’s against this backdrop that he advised the general public to maintain cleanliness as we approach the rain season.
Bashinyora attributed flush floods in the city to locals who have erected kiosks on the drainage channels hence blocking movement of water. He, however revealed that authority has deployed it’s machines to clean up all drainage channels so as to ease movement of water within the drainages.
The LC1 Chairperson for Mbaawo zone in Lubaga Division, James Bosa Nakabale, pledged to work together with the authority to remove heaps of garbage in his area on top of urging locals to keep garbage in bins before handing it over to authorized KCCA agents for collection.
