MAAIF Trains Hand-held Tractor Operators in Karamoja Sub region

Engineers from the Ministry of Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries have camped in Karamoja sub-region to equip farmers with knowledge in operating hand-held tractors.

The one week training started on April 15, 2024 at Nabuine Zonal Agricultural Research and Development Institute (ZARDI) in Nabilatuk District.

In his opening remarks, Eng. James Kasozi Tondo asked the farmers and the trainees to properly utilise the tractors given to them in order to boost commercial agriculture and alleviate poverty in the area.

The walking tractors were given out to farmers across the country by the government through Ministry of Agriculture, Animal, Industry and Fisheries in fulfillment of H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s promise to help 39% of Ugandans trapped in subsistence farming to migrate faster to commercial agriculture since it is only the available option to fight household poverty and boost production.

The pass out was done by the Minister for Karamoja Affairs, Peter Lokeris.

In his remarks, the Minister urged the trainers to use the knowledge acquired from the training to develop their respective districts. He was welcomed by Nabuin ZARDI director, Mr. Okullo Paul and the Principal Engineer farm structures and energy from MAAIF, James Kasozi Tondo.
