During the clean up exercise, Hajat Sharifah Buzeki challenged the business community to observe cleanliness and to ensure they operate in Gazzeted places recognized by the authority.
Hajat Buzeki asked the general public to endeavour to separate organic wastes from the inorganic one for proper management of solid wastes.
“Today we had a successful clean up exercise and many people from different parts of Kampala embraced it. We have been able to clean Nasser road, Nasser Lane, Luwum street and Namirembe road among others. We were able to green open spaces along Namirembe road and we also planted trees on Luwum street, ” and impressed Hajat Buzeki told scribes.
Hajat Sharifah Buzeki is optimistic that the continuous general clean up and greening of streets within the city will go a long way in promoting good sanitation and environmental conservation hence achieving the authority’s goal of turning Kampala into the most admirable smart city in the region.
“The exercise is intended to beautify Kampala Capital City on top of restoring sanity within the city. However, I have discovered some illegal dumpsites around Nasser road and Nasser Lane but fortunately we have able to sensitize the people working around these places . We cautioned them against creating illegal dumpsites, ” Hajat Buzeki explained.
Hajat Sharifah Buzeki also warned the general public against trespassing on the greenery saying the culprits will be arraigned and charged in courts of Laws.
She further commended street vendors and hawkers for complying with the authority’s directive to vacate the streets of Kampala, something she says has restored sanity and order within the city center.
The project Manager Nabugabo Up-Deal Joint Venture Limited, Hajj Abubaker Ssonko, revealed that as garbage collectors they have deployed a garbage truck on every street of Kampala for timely collection of garbage.

He however, implored traders to dump garbage in trash bins for easy collection by his cleaning company .
” The departure of street vendors on Kampala streets has eased our job of cleaning the city because we can easily access any corner where there is garbage. Therefore, I call upon people to maintain cleanliness within the city by avoiding littering wastes anywhere, ‘Hajj Sonko said
He went on:
‘The solid waste management ordinance 2000 does not allow people to dump wastes anyhow most especially along the roadside. We are committed to working day and night as we strive to keep Kampala clean.’
