With the rains here, KCCA Executive Director, Hajati Sharifah Buzeki has assured the public that her teams are working tirelessly to clear all drainage spots to allow proper water flow.
“Our teams are clearing all blocked drainage spots across the city, allowing free flow of runoff. These spots include those along Jinja road-Kyambogo & Lugogo; Northern bypass-Kalerwe, Bunamwaya Rd at the Nalukolongo Channel crossing” she said.

She urged road users and residents to be cautious as they approach these points.
“Please take caution as you approach these points for the safety of life and property. With the drainage clearing efforts we have undertaken, we are certain the roads shall be cleared within 15-30 minutes of the rain stopping” she assured.
Buzeki appealed to the public not to litter or dump in drainages as this shall cause blockages, which leads to flooding.
“Together, we can achieve a cleaner city” she urged.
Meanwhile, to further secure safety of road users and residents in Kampala City, the KCCA Executive Director has come up with traffic guidelines to be followed by road users.
The guidelines include those directed at drivers urging them to observe the right traffic rules and regulations governing vehicles.
One such a request is to ensure that headlights are on as they drive in rainy weather; Maintain reasonable follow distance, being patient to avoid unnecessary overtaking; Ensuring that the wipers are functioning properly to give a clear sight as they drive; Not attempting to drive through running water and also observing speed limits (maintain 30 speed limit). As for road other users, the ED urged them to plan their journeys ahead of time in addition to avoiding walking in pools of water.
Her response follows a heavy downpour this morning which left several roads flooded.
However, according to Hajati Buzeki, those throwing rubbish on roads and other places are responsible for the blockage of drainage channels which result in flooding of the city roads. Through her campaign ‘weyonje’ which was launched recently, Buzeki hopes to instill a culture of responsible waste management among City residents and those working in it. The Weyonje campaign targets everyone both at work places and homes as regards rubbish disposal to ensure a cleaner City.
