Iki-Iki Constituency aspiring Member of Parliament Mujomba Sam Gagi has urged people in this area to desist from consuming unboiled water to avoid suffering from waterborne diseases.

The MP hopeful made the remarks during a sensitization seminar for health mobilizers which brought together participants from Katira subcounty, Mugiti Sub-County, Iki-Iki Sub-County and Kadimonkoli Sub-County. He said this campaign targets all Sub-Counties and Town councils in this Constituency but chose to begin with the first four which he said are the most affected by water problems.
He said his campaign of providing safe water which has been ongoing has so far yielded fruits in this area.
“Our people have been facing a challenge of getting safe water. Some of the boreholes were nonfunctional and yet they need water. Some of them had resorted to ponds which exposed them to waterborne diseases especially children” he explained.
Mujomba in the meeting urged the locals to ensure that the repaired boreholes are protected so as to serve for the required period.
“Patriotism demands that things that serve everyone is a public good. A borehole, a health center, a road, a school and many others are things we use as a community. Therefore, when we repair these water sources, let’s guard against spoiling them” he said.
The aspiring legislator added that safe water is key to a child’s growth. He explained that open sources of water are prone to abuse by some individuals resulting into illnesses like cholera, typhoid in addition to being a source of bilharzia.
He urged his team of health mobilizers to ensure that people are sensitized about the importance of keeping good environment, hygiene, sanitation and boiling water for drinking.
“We want our mothers to produce children who are healthy. They too, need to be in a good health condition so that they enjoy their pregnancy instead of keeping in and out of hospital because of water related causes” he cautioned.
The sensitization seminar will next month move to the remaining Sub-Counties including Kamonkoli subcounty, Kameruka, Kamonkoli Town Council and Iki-Iki Town Council.
