The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) in conjunction with Ministry of Works and Transport- Maritime department have held search and rescue sensitisation workshops in Ntungamo and Isingiro districts.
The workshops according to UCAA Public Affairs Manager Vianney Mpungu Luggya, enhanced awareness among the public about search and rescue; a service rendered to people in distress in case of an unfortunate air or water incident.
“Search and rescue is a national obligation which involves the utilisation of available resources to locate, remove and provide initial medical and humanitarian assistances to those in need” he explained.
The Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Isingiro Dennis Mutungi Mugyenyi, and his counterpart from Ntungamo Isaiah Kanyamahane Byaruhanga presided over the opening of the workshops in their respective districts.
Participants were drawn from the Uganda Police, Local Government leadership, medical personnel, head teachers and the Uganda Red Cross among others.
