City Lawyer Muwema Evicted from Kololo Offices Over Shs1.34Bn Rent Arrears

By Peter Luzinda

A well-known Kampala-based law firm, Muwema & Co. Advocates, has been evicted from its offices in Kololo after allegedly failing to pay rent arrears amounting to USD 372,300 (approximately UGX 1.34 billion) owed to the landlord, Downtown Investments Ltd.

The eviction was carried out on Friday morning at the firm’s offices located in the upscale suburb of Kololo in Kampala, when court bailiffs accompanied by security personnel moved in to enforce the repossession of the premises.

Witnesses at the scene said enforcement officers supervised the removal of office property including furniture, computers, documents, and other equipment as the landlord reclaimed the building following what was described as prolonged rent default.

Sources close to the matter indicated that the landlord had made several attempts to recover the outstanding rent through negotiations and formal notices, but the arrears allegedly remained unpaid, prompting legal action that culminated in the eviction.

Kololo is one of Kampala’s most prestigious commercial and residential neighborhoods, hosting several corporate offices, diplomatic missions, and high-end business establishments. The eviction of a prominent legal practice from the area has therefore sparked discussion within legal and business circles.

By press time, representatives from Muwema & Co. Advocates had not publicly commented on the eviction or clarified their next course of action.
