Vital! MPs Call For Uganda-Germany Partnership On Health, Agriculture Knowledge Transfer As They Attend 2nd Uganda-Germany International Business Convention!

Ugandan legislators attending the 2nd Uganda-Germany International Business Convention have called for collaboration between Uganda and Germany in areas of health and Agriculture.

The Convention running from October 4-13, has attracted five MPs led by Linda Auma Agnes, two Presidential Advisors, Mayors, Researchers, Farmers, Students from Gulu Univeristy and the Business community from both Germany and Uganda.

The Convention has been organized by Africa Growth Frontiers (AGF) headed by Ugandan born ladies, Lillian Ikulumet and Jackie Oloya in partnership with Uganda Embassy Honorary Consul of Munich Dr. Wolfgang Wiedmann, Uganda community headed by Micheal Lwanga and Bavarian Ministry for Agriculture.

The Ugandan delegates headed by Uganda’s Amb. to Germany H.E Amb. Mubiru Stephen visited several important places for benchmarking purposes. Among those visited was Landsberg Klinik where they discussed with the chief doctors and administrators on possible partnerships in the areas of sharing of equipment, knowledge transfer and skilled workers such as nursing staff.

During their interaction, Rainer Junger, the deputy district chairman of CSU Landsberg, noted that the issue of care and medicine is of great concern to politicians in Uganda.

“Uganda has extremely a young population and a lot of qualified nurses and doctors who are unemployed. Perspectives are lacking in a country that is primarily characterized by agriculture” he said during the delegation’s visit to Landsberg Klinik.

According to Lilian Ikulumet, the hospital agreed to work out a plan to have Doctor, Nursing and Student exchanges between Ugandan hospitals and their hospital as soon as possible in a bid to share knowledge.

The lady from Teso added that Ugandan delegates also had an opportunity to visit the Bayern Genetics, where a Breeding program between Bayern Genetics and Gulu Univeristy partnership was considered.

She said Bayern Genetics will also visit Uganda and Gulu University in particular.

Ikulumet said the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture boss, Linda Agnes Auma (Lira Woman) hailed this development, saying it aligns very well with President Museveni’s call for improvements on both agriculture and cattle farming.

“Bayern Genetic agreed to offer student training and exchange programs for Uganda student farmers and also extend their business to Uganda” she revealed.

On Waste Management, the delegation also visited the Pelmeyer Waste to Energy Management Plant. Here, they met a team of experts who took them through innovative methods on waste management.

With Uganda still in utter shock following the recent Kiteezi Landfill massacre where over 30 people were buried by collapsing garbage, the legislators described the visit to this farm as very timely as Uganda continues to grapple with the problem of waste management.

Ikulumet revealed that the Farm agreed to offer a training program on waste management.

“The program will start as soon as possible and will be coordinated by Africa Growth Frontiers management” she said.

During this Convention, several experts from Munich such as Susanne Fluegel, made extensive presentations on Waste Management and Recycling, giving their experience within the City of Munich.

Ikulumet said that the MPs also visited the Bavarian parliament to discuss possible cooperation with Uganda Parliament.

ABOUT AFRICA GROWTH FRONTIERS

AGF was founded in Munich by Lilian Ikulumet and Jackie Olaya with a focus on enhancing community growth and development among Ugandan communities and Africa at large. The entity has for the past few years, been focusing on Agriculture due to the fact that the sector is the backbone of most African communities. During this year’s Convention, over 15 Ugandan farmers were selected to attend while another group of farmers will also be in Berlin-Germany in January next year to attend the Green Week Festival.

According to Micheal Lwanga, the chairman Uganda Community in Germany, this Convention marks a pivotal moment in their engagement efforts to strengthen Economic ties, foster collaboration and explore new avenues for growth and innovation.

“This Convention serves as a platform for business leaders, entrepreneurs and policy makers for both countries to come together, share insights and forge meaningful partnerships” he said.

Lwanga noted that with Uganda’s rich resources, youthful workforce and strategic location in East Africa, combined with Germany’s technological prowess and robust industrial base, the convention offers a unique opportunity to create synergies that can drive sustainable development and mutual prosperity.
